| Profile | | Susan Kingston has over 20 years of experience in teaching, consulting, and administration in both the public schools and higher education. In the 1980's and 90's, Ms. Kingston taught English and history in both the middle and high schools of Fairfax County, northern Virginia. Prior to her present appointment at the Boston University School of Education, Ms. Kingston was the secondary curriculum coordinator for the Norwood Public Schools. In 1999, she joined the faculty at the School of Education where she is responsible for the development and maintenance of the SED Literacy Testing Program as well as a school-wide conversation about the teaching of writing. Ms. Kingston's academic interests include professional development programs for public schools and universities with particular emphasis on literacy. A life-long musician, Ms. Kingston has sung with numerous symphonies and opera companies in both the Boston and Washington, D.C. areas. |

| Selected Professional Service | - Researcher in a study of middle school literacy practices in the Boston Public Schools, a project involving five universities through the Boston Higher Education Partnership and intended to create long-term relationships among school-based practitioners and university researchers for the purpose of addressing issues of mutual concern within the public schools.
