Faculty Profile: Dr. Sullivan's teaching responsibilities include the professional preparation of teachers for licensure in Physical Education and Health Education. She is the Coordinator of Student Teachers for pre and final practiums in the local schools. In addition to teaching theory and methods classes, Dr. Sullivan teaches the required movement education class for elementary and early childhood education students at Boston University. Her research interests include teacher education/teacher effectiveness in Physical Education, use of movement for cognitive reinforcement, the level of student involvement, and the parameters of cooperative play. She has conducted numerous workshops for the professional development of Physical Education teachers and classroom teachers. She works with local and national organizations to promote effective Physical Education programs. Her most recent published research focuses on the teaching behaviors of majors and non-majors, systematic observation in the gymnasium, game analysis: Games and Sports Around the World (Ed), Let's Move and Learn: Physical Educational Games for Classroom Teachers, Chapter 6 in Sport in the Twenty-first Century (Ed. Lombardo et al), " Critical Game Analysis and the Multi-Dimensional Nature of Games for Young Children." A games manual for classroom teachers and a children’s book telling the story of girls and boys from a grade one class participating in a dynamic Physical Education Program will be published spring 2006.
